A friend and reader of this site, a Realtor in the Brevard, NC, area, has put her beautiful home on the market at Burlingame Country Club, one of the premier private clubs in the mountains of western North Carolina. The list price for the home is $399,000 which, based on the photos (see below) and views from the backyard, seems quite reasonable to us. In the past few years, many of our customers have described their ideal home in the mountains in ways that echo the features of this particular home; therefore, we have decided to display its charms here for a few days. If you are interested, please contact us.

Here are the salient details. It is a completely renovated home with a new kitchen, updated baths, new hardwood floors, a new roof and new

driveway –- all on one level. The house features 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths and approximately 2,100 square feet of heated space on a lot that is almost one acre large. Taxes on the home are just $1,955 annually with a homeowner association fee of $1,450 per year. The house has a year-round view of Hogback Mountain; located behind the tee box on #3, the backyard also looks down the sprawling, tree-lined fairway of the par 4 hole. The photos below provide a good idea of how well the home has been renovated and how nicely it is sited within the community. (Note: The owners are willing to include the home’s handsome furnishings at a negotiated price.)

The Burlingame golf course was designed by Tom Jackson and opened in 1985. Check out the club’s web site -– click here -- which includes an interesting tour of the layout. The member-owned golf club has instituted a “legacy” membership, extending full member privileges at no additional costs to the parents, children and grandchildren of members.

Burlingame Country Club is located in Sapphire, NC, just 15 minutes from Cashiers and a half hour from the entertaining -– some might say “artsy” -- town of Brevard. Suffice to say that there is plenty to do in the area throughout the year.

This blog was conceived and is published by me, Larry Gavrich, a former corporate communications executive who founded HomeOnTheCourse, LLC, in 2005.  Our firm advises baby boomers and others seeking a lifestyle in which golf is a major component.  My wife Connie and I own a home in Connecticut (not on a golf course) and a condo at Pawleys Plantation in Pawleys Island, SC, on a Jack Nicklaus layout.  We began our search for our home on the course more than 15 years ago, and the challenges of the search inspired me to research golf communities and write objective reviews of them.
